Frequently Asked Questions

Storage Tips

  • Keep boxes a uniform size - they are much easier to stack that way.
  • Completely fill each box, with heavier items on the bottom and light items on top.
  • Make an inventory list of stored items, and keep it in a safe place.
  • Label each box for easy identification - number your boxes, label all 4 sides, and seal with tape.
  • Plan your storage space - allow room for walkways, and place items in front that will be most frequently accessed.
  • To allow for ventilation and avoid damage, use 2x4's boards or pallets to raise items off the floor, and leave a small space between the wall and your stored items.
  • Boxes containing glassware should be placed on top of the stack.
  • Use a HIGH QUALITY lock to secure your items.

How do I select the right storage unit size?

  • For a list of storage unit sizes and a description of what they will hold, visit our Storage Units page, or call our office. We can make a recommendation based on the information you provide about what you will be storing.

Are there items I cannot store?

  • Do not store perishable items, such as food, plants or live animals
  • Do not store anything combustible, such as paint, paint thinner, gasoline, solvents, etc. Drain all oil and gas from lawnmowers, snow blowers, etc.
  • Do not store anything explosive, such as gunpowder, fireworks, or propane gas tanks.
  • Do not store any hazardous chemicals or waste materials.
  • Do not store any illegal substances or goods that do not legally belong to you.

What is the best way to pack my items?

  • All glass items should be individually wrapped in packing paper or other wrapping and placed in dish pack boxes. Nest cups and bowls. Stand plates, saucers and platters on edge. Wrapped glasses should be placed near the top of cartons.
  • Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in mirror crates or cardboard, marked 'FRAGILE' and stacked on their side, not flat.
  • Clothing, curtains and drapes are best stored on hangers inside wardrobe cartons. Otherwise, store items folded inside chests or dresser drawers.
  • Drawers and appliances can have items stored inside them - wrap items in towels, tablecloths or blankets to prevent breakage.
  • Apply furniture polish to wood furniture, and cover with old sheets (not plastic).
  • If possible, disassemble items such as tables and bed frames to save space. Wrap and label all pieces, and place hardware in a bag and mark accordingly.
  • Pack electronics in original boxes if available. For items with multiple cords, consider color-coding (place a colored sticker on the cord and the same colored sticker where the cord goes) to save hassle when it comes time to reassemble your electronics.
  • Appliances should be clean and dry. Refrigerators, freezers and microwaves should be stored with the door slightly ajar to prevent mildew.
  • Bicycles, tools and other metals items may rust over time - protect them by wiping them with a small amount of machine oil.
  • Drain oil and gasoline from lawn mowers or other motorized items before you store them to eliminate corrosive damage and leakage.
  • Pack books flat to protect their spines. Do not overload boxes.
  • Trash cans make great storage devices for your lawn and garden tools.

When is rent due, and how can I pay?

  • Rent is due at the first of the month, regardless of what day of the month you rent the unit. For example, if you rent on the 20th of the month, we pro rate your rent for that month, and your next payment is due on the first of each month thereafter. We will also pro rate your rent on the month you are moving out, as long as you move out before the 10th of the month.
  • We accept cash, check, money order, Visa and Mastercard.

What about Insurance?

  • Insurance is the responsibility of the tenant. Sometimes your homeowner's or renter's insurance policy will cover the items stored. Check with your insurance agent for more information. We also offer low cost insurance options.

Do I have to sign a long-term contract when I rent a unit?

  • There is a 1-month minimum term rental, and after that it is month to month. However, we do rent units by the day or week - let us know if you prefer this option.

Once I've moved in, is there anything I should keep in mind?

  • It is best to check your unit once a month.
  • Be aware of your surroundings when you are in your unit. Alert the manager if you see anything suspicious.
  • Do not give out your gate code to anyone who should not have access to the site.
  • When entering the gate, watch for and alert management if another vehicle follows you in without coding in.
